Despite 60 lawsuits denying relief based on the claim that that the Democrats had rigged that election, at the conclusion of his address Trump told the mob, \u201c[a]nd we fight. We fight like hell. And if you don\u2019t fight like hell, you\u2019re not going to have a country anymore.\u201d Several thousand attendees then marched toward the U.S. Capitol and joined a crowd that had assembled and was clashing with police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By 2 p.m., the rioters broke through the police barricades and a number of them entered the Capitol building, with some people smashing through windows and doors. The established purpose of the mob was to prevent the counting of electoral votes to conclude the certification of Joe Biden as the winner of the election. Soon after, both the Senate and House of Representatives adjourned because of the assault on the House Chamber, with rioters attempting to break down the doors. Vice President Pence \u2013 for whom the mob had erected a scaffolding with signs stating \u201cHang Pence\u201d \u2013 was immediately evacuated to safety within the Capitol.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around 4 p.m., President Trump, who had returned to the White House and was watching the events on the television without intervening to stop the mob, finally posted a video message on social media in which he repeated his claims of election fraud and told his supporters to &#8220;go home in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Within 36 hours, five people died: one was shot by the Capitol Police while breaching a barrier, another died of a drug overdose, and three died of natural causes, including a police officer who died a day after being assaulted by rioters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is a video of the January 6 subcommittee, summarizing the events which led up to the attacks: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"This Trump tweet ahead of Jan. 6 was a \u2018pivotal moment,\u2019 Cheney says in Jan. 6 hearings\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JOryFFIKEY4?start=2&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, here is a video of part of the the actual attacks, also  compiled by the January 6 Committee:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"WATCH: Jan. 6 committee shows new footage of Capitol attack\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/b3_O91gyj9o?start=32&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Trump Administration is doing its best to erase these events. On taking office in January 2025, Trump promptly pardoned all of the nearly 1,600 individuals convicted of the numerous crimes they committed that day. The Administration also took a dim view of an order from the D.C. federal court requiring that all documents used in the convictions of the January 6 defendants be maintained on a public website, and in early February started taking them down, a move quickly noticed by the press and just as quickly blocked by a federal judge.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During his recent address to a Joint Session of Congress, Trump professed his deep admiration for law enforcement, while failing to mention the pardons of 137 January 6 rioters convicted of assaulting police officers. &nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More recently, Republicans in the House of Representatives have expressed an interest in a second January 6 Committee, for the presumed purpose of continuing the effort to whitewash the sordid events of that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Finally, in a \u2019speech\u2019 at the Department of Justice on March 14th, Trump boasted about pardoning hundreds of \u201cpolitical prisoners who have been grossly mistreated,\u201d referring to the people convicted in connection with the pro-Trump mob that stormed the Capitol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second Trump administration\u2019s rapidly evolving and ever more Orwellian approach to fact \u2013 and here, historical fact \u2013 now extends to the&nbsp;active erasure of documentation&nbsp;that serves as the collective keeper of the flame of truth about January 6th.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We believe that extinguishing this flame would be among the most serious threats to this nation\u2019s future as a functioning democracy, and that the time has come, and with the greatest urgency, for a new and proactive effort to ensure that it never be snuffed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The mission of the One-Six Museum Project is to build a repository that saves and tells the truth of January 6th.&nbsp; It will prevent the deceptions the present Administration is spreading from becoming the \u201chistorical\u201d truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>We will start with a website, and as funds increase, plan to break ground near Capitol Hill for a brick-and-mortar establishment where visitors to Washington, D.C. and especially Capitol Hill, can visit and view multimedia presentations of the history behind January 6th, the actual events, and the aftermath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>At the One-Six Museum, we know that change starts with people like you.
